As a part of the acclaimed DC Comics – The New 52 event of September 2011, the Dark Knight continues his crusade as defender of Gotham City, taking on his greatest foes during a breakout at Arkham Asylum. But when his enemies gain powers and abilities far beyond their normal capacities, the Caped Crusader’s crusade may finally be at an end!
For all those that do not know, the New 52 is a bit of a change for DC comics. I borrowed the following from Wikipedia:
The New 52 is a 2011 revamp and relaunch by DC Comics of its entire line of ongoing monthly superhero books, in which all of its existing titles were cancelled, and fifty-two new series debuted in September 2011 with new first issues. Among the series being renumbered are Action Comics and Detective Comics, which had previously retained their original numbering since the 1930s.
This one was interesting, but not in a special way. I think Batman is one of my favourite superheroes, if not the favourite, but this issue was… interesting.
The artwork within it is great – exaggerated beyond belief, which I think is stock in trade for comics. The muscles are huge, as are the women’s chests. Bats runs through the comic dealing with baddie after baddie, always looking for the kingpin.
So there was an element of same-old, same-old about it. It kept me reading to the end though and I just know that The White Rabbit is going to be in there wreaking havoc soon enough. All in all, a fun read for Batman fans, but just too not expect too much from it – yet.
Here’s hoping this will pick up a bit and become classic like the Frank Miller stuff.
