On numerous photo trips to local rivers and lakes we found ourselves always surrounded by birds of all sorts – ducks, eagles, kites etc. But one insect more than any other always seems to find us – dragonflies. As a bit of a joke I collectively named them Doug.
So everywhere we went we found Doug following us. Always a Doug to find and photograph. The kids would yell ‘There’s Doug’ and we would look around to find another bunch of them flitting around in the reeds beside the lake, pond or river that we were at. They hovered near us and on the odd occasion we got some great photos. They are flighty and quick and most difficult to capture with a camera.
In every life we have an opportunity to either paddle with the ducks or fly like an eagle. It is a conscious choice we have to make. There is a decision we need to contemplate when doing this grand adventure.
It is a matter of choice on the way you choose to live your life. Duck, duck, duck and eventually be a goose. Or fly, fly, fly and be free like the eagles. Live a life as free as the birds that fly over our head every day. Choose not to let the material things tie us down. Choose not to let the work things get in the way. Do what we need to, but when we do not have to do that, LIVE.
Recently my wife and I hired a campervan for a week almost on a whim. Our kids were very disappointed when we told them that it was only a two berther, so much so that Summer almost cried on the spot. You see they have the same travlling bug that we do, but this week was just for us to recapture our excitement (though our excitement never really disappears).
Here’s a bit of a free plug for Britz!
It was an excuse for us to travel around Victoria and just stop wherever we liked to look at whatever we liked. A chance to commune with the flora and fauna, wild and wilderness, sun and surf.
If you read my blog often enough, you would have probably noticed that I have two boys from a previous marriage that I do not see anymore. Sometimes even I have enough of thinking about them!
What you probably do not realise is that I also have two children from my new marriage and one slightly deranged cat. They play a huge part of my life now, so I would like to introduce you to them.
