Description

Dead on Ice is the first installment of Lauren Carr’s new series (Lovers in Crime). It features Hancock County Prosecuting Attorney Joshua Thornton and his new love, Pennsylvania State Police homicide detective Cameron Gates. In this Loves in Crime Mystery, spunky Pennsylvania State Homicide Detective Cameron Gates is tasked with solving the murder of Cherry Pickens, a legendary star of pornographic films, when body turns up in an abandoned freezer. The case has a personal connection to Cameron’s lover, Joshua Thornton, because the freezer was found in his cousin’s basement. It doesn’t take long for their investigation to reveal that the risqu star’s roots were buried in their rural Ohio Valley community, something that Cherry had kept off her show business bio. She should have kept her hometown off her road map, too-because when this starlet came running home from the mob, it proved to be a fatal homecoming. In her new series, Lauren Car teams up her first literary detective with a new and exciting partner. Homicide Detective Cameron Gates has a spunky personality that’s a perfect complement to Joshua Thornton’s logical and responsible nature.

“Readers of my first series kept asking when I would bring back Joshua Thornton,” Carr explained. “However, they are going to find that single father Joshua Thornton is not in the same place since we left him in A Reunion to Die For. His children are grown. He’s more independent, and he’s ready for some romance and adventure. That’s where Cameron Gates comes in.”

With that, Joshua Thornton and Cameron Gates strike out to explore the mysteries of both murder and love!

My Review:

Okay, I admit it.  This one throw me for a while.  I actually stopped reading it when I thought that both halves of the couple were male.  You know, Joshua and Cameron.  Well, in Australia I don’t see Cameron used much as a girl’s name and it took my wife to remind of that little-known actor Cameron Diaz.  After a little research, I realised that Cameron can indeed be a girl’s name!!!

With that sorted out, I got on to reading this enjoyable little mystery.  There is a real connection between the two main characters that even I found easy to enjoy and a lot of other wacky and fun people along the way.  Some of them you will like and some are destined to be hated, but you will end up like me wanting to know just a little more about them.

This book disappears all too quickly with lots of twists and turns on the way.  A great way to pass an afternoon if you like murder mystery.  Given that this has a tagline of ‘Lovers in Crime’, I assume we are going to see more of this couple.  I know I will be looking for them.

My Rating:

4 dead bodies out of 5

  1. 4 out of 5 dead bodies! Love it! Dead bodies is so much more appropriate than stars when it comes to a murder mystery. Thank you so much for reviewing Dead on Ice, Stephen!
